Language Arts


Derek Pizzuto studied at the University of California, Santa Cruz  (go Banana Slugs!) where he majored in pre and early modern Literature, and earned his Masters from Framingham State.  He enjoys writing poetry and fiction, and is a Civil War reenactor.  Over the years, he has been an activist on a number of issues, and believes strongly that we all need to be active participants in life, and to have a voice - this is why his class theme is "How can a voice be heard?" He is entering his 14th year teaching in Shrewsbury, and can't believe that much time has passed...

Kristine Young  Ms. Young



Ms. Young graduated from Worcester State University in 2012 with a B.A.in Math. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Middle School Education from Worcester State University. She developed a passion for mathematics during her own middle school years and that passion has continued to grow throughout her undergraduate and graduate studies. Outside of the classroom, Ms. Young enjoys gardening, hiking with her dog, and spending time lakeside, whether itís kayaking, boating, or just relaxing and reading.

Mr. Mularella



Mr. Mularella graduated from UMass in 1999 with a B.S. in Wildlife Conservation. He grew up fascinated by the movie Jaws and wanted to be a marine biologist and study great white sharks. He realized teaching was his passion and took a non-traditional route to becoming a teacher through working at summer camps, volunteering in AmeriCorps, and teaching at Nature's Classroom. Mr. M is now entering his 8th year teaching Science at Oak Middle School.

Mr. Mularella is a huge fan of MythBusters, Bill Nye, and trying to break world record heights using Diet Coke and Mentos. Outside of the classroom, he enjoys traveling, spending time outdoors, and playing hockey. Mr. M is a big Pittsburgh Steelers and Montreal Canadiens fan.


Mr. Ahlin

World History


Mr. Dave Ahlin graduated from Worcester State University with a B.S. in Psychology/Urban Studies and returned to Worcester State to earn his M.A in Middle School Education. Prior to his present teaching career, Mr. Ahlin was a Social Worker for several years. He also worked marketing and sales for several companies. Mr. Ahlin has taught at both the middle school and high school levels, teaching different eras of history. Prior to arriving at Oak, Mr. Ahlin taught at the Woodward Day School located in Worcester.  Time has flown by. This will be his 11th year teaching at Oak. His interests outside of school include spending time with his children Maria and Jack. He also enjoys skiing, bike riding and fishing.



Erin Barrell

Miss Barrell earned her masterís Degree in Special Education from Lesley University.  She is entering her eighth year of teaching at OMS.   Miss Barrell enjoys working in the community where she grew up.  Prior to starting her career in Shrewsbury, she worked as a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant as she received her undergraduate degree in Communication Disorders from the University of Massachusetts- Amherst.   Outside of teaching, Miss Barrell loves spending time at the Cape, running with friends and skiing!  Of course, she is a Boston sports fan!

Ms. Allen

 Teaching Aide


Mrs. Allen has a degree in English Literature from UMass/Boston, a Teacher Certification from Salem State College and is a Licensed Professional teacher. In addition to teaching in public schools for many years, she has also been a professional technical editor for Computer and Communications systems documentation in the aerospace industry, a quality assurance specialist for a software development company and a professional trainer for online testing systems. Among the highlights of her career is work on the NASA Apollo Space mission including the Lunar Exploration Module and the Space Shuttle. In her spare time, Mrs. Allen enjoys reading, painting with watercolors and oils and exploring new software programs on her computer.
